Few of us have escaped the loss of a loved one to Cancer. With no sense of melodrama Miriam shares her story. Her words are strightforward and tender. The sincerity in this book both broke my heart and made me chuckle. An inspiration!
This is such a beautiful heartfelt piece of writing which had me laughing, crying then laughing some more.
Miriam shares her love and grief so honestly and fearlessly that you can not helped but be deeply touched by her writing.This book is full of humorous and insightful observations on life and human nature as well as deeply touching personal accounts of love loss and continuing love. It is a joy to read.
This book is truly inspirational. Miriam is blunt, open, funny and sincere. Anyone dealing with loss, single parenthood or is indeed willing to look at how they themselves "show up" in their life will enjoy this book. She delves deep into her own being, speaking openly, with integrity, humour and compassion revealing herself in a vulnerable yet profoundly resilient way. It will not fail to touch you.
Read this book. You wont regret it
I could not put this book down. Before you read it (and I recommend that you do), please have tissues to hand! I shed many tears whilst reading this book but also laughed a lot. This wonderful lady describes honestly her incredible journey following the diagnosis of her husband's cancer whilst juggling the care of her two young children. Following his death, Miriam wholeheartedly channels her energies into her family, the result of which will be, undoubtedly, two outstanding adults. I would, if I could, pat Miriam on the back and tell her that she is doing a grand job!
'Mary Had Stretch Marks' describes the author's journey from her husband's diagnosis of a fatal illness to a time several years after his death. It is an intensely personal memoir, yet will appeal to anyone who has experienced loss, been a single parent or hungered for a more honest and healthier way to live. She takes us on a fascinating tour that for me combined reassurance that some of my experiences are more universal than I might have thought, with information about experiences I haven't had and am intensely curious about. It seems that some of life's hardest and happiest experiences are perhaps easier to write or read about than talk about. I agree with the author that it's time to talk as honestly as we can about both -- and laugh as much as we can. As she says, secrets keep us sick.
This book has made me laugh, cry, nod, shake my head, laugh a bit more and cry a bit more. If you want a real account of how life can be and not just the fluffy bits.....then read this..
Raw and honest and I loved it. Life isn't a bed of roses, but we need to take the time to smell them once in a while. The journey that the author has gone on with her children without a husband and them without their father is a hard one. But I love the way that she has captured ways in which to help us, by writing the book, deal with certain things that come up. Its real with icky bits. Who on earth wants to tell you about all the messy bits and all the things that go wrong? Mistakes that are made and the odd slip up is completely about learning and moving forward. I hope the realness of this book helps you to have the sence of "okay, I see what's going on here", learn from it and keep moving forward. Love, grief, anger and fun is a part of life and although it is very tough we manage it the best way we can especially when there are little people involved.
Miriam shares her journey ...with nothing but honesty. An inspiring read for anyone, especially those who have lost someone to cancer....Against all odds Miriam emerges from the despair of grief....ready to take on the next chapter in her life . Told with such humour.....fair play to her! A lovely lovely read.
